Departure to Merzouga via Ifran (It is also known as the Switzerland of Morocco). We will stop at the Azrou forest to enjoy watching the little monkeys climbing the cedars and then continue via the Middle Atlas Mountains. Then we will continue via the Ziz Valley and its gorges and Errachidia. We will continue to the city of Erfoud, famous for being the capital of fossils. Arrival in Merzouga, enjoying a day where we can appreciate the peace of the desert. Accommodation in a hostel near the dunes.
In the morning we will return to the hotel by dromedary to have breakfast and take a comforting shower. Visit to Khamlia, a village originally from Mali, where we can relax with tea while enjoying a small Gnawa music concert. We will then take a short tour of the Erg Chebbi dunes in a 4×4, an extension of the sand desert where the Great Dune of Morocco is located, over 250 meters high, connecting by track with part of the route followed by the old Paris-Dakar and with the mountains that border Algeria in the background. We will make a stop at a panoramic point where we can contemplate the Erg Chebbi as a whole. We will then go to Rissani, the first imperial city, with its interesting market, where nomads from the surrounding area come to sell their cattle and buy the goods they need. There you can taste if you fancy the tasty Berber pizza (it is only cooked here) and we will continue our way to Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley, one of the longest rivers in Morocco. Stops to contemplate the charming adobe kasbahs and Berber villages that dot the route and the interesting geological formations of the Draa Valley. Dinner and night in Ouarzazate.
We will get up early to see the beautiful sunrise between the dunes. Then we will ride a camel to return to the lodge where you will have breakfast. We will continue towards the Gorges via Rissani where we will stop a bit to visit its traditional Souk, which is considered the largest in all of Southern Morocco. We will continue towards the Todra Gorges. Night in the middle of the Gorges.
Free day in Marrakech, a city famous for its Jemaa el Fna square, which will occupy much of our time: an unrepeatable amalgamation of aromas, sounds and sensations. The city also has endless places to wander and enjoy: the Majorelle Gardens, the Menara, the Saadian Tombs, walks through the medina or the mellah (the old Jewish quarter), the tour of the walls and the modern city (Gueliz) with its western ways of life. After breakfast and before continuing to Marrakech, we will visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou where many movies have been filmed, including Asterix & Obelix, Babel, the Sahara, The Kingdom of Heaven, Cleopatra, Gladiator… Then we will continue to Marrakech on the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’tichka pass. On the side of the mountains we will see Berber villages and farms. Arrival in Marrakech and transfer to the hotel.
A day to discover the charms of Marrakech, its historical monuments: the Menara gardens and basin, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saâdian Tombs and the Dar si Said Museum or the Bahia Palace and Jamaa Square, El Fna with its souks.
